One Post-Doctoral Grant Scholarship - Life Charcos - FLORA

It is now opened a call for the attribution of a one Post-Doctoral Grant Scholarship in the scope of project LIFE Charcos – Temporary Ponds Conservation in the Southwest Coast of Portugal, financed by European Commission by LIFE + Program, with the following conditions:

Admission requirements:

The candidates should hold a PhD degree in Biology, Botany, Ecology or Plant Science or other equivalent; statistical skills and ability to analyse and interpret data sets; developed research skills, demonstrated by publications in scientific journals; broad experience in report writing; experience in wetland ecology and ecological restoration would be particularly valuable. Skills in cartography of habitats (GIS) are also valued. Good Portuguese and English (both oral and written) and communication skills are essential. Candidates must be available to travel and to extended stays in the field and in good physical conditions. Some degree of autonomy is expected from the candidate.

Work Plan:

The main scientific topics of postdoctoral research fellowship are Mediterranean temporary ponds conservation and restoration; temporary ponds soil seed bank and vegetation assessment; preservation of genetic resources; habitat management and ecological restoration.

Legislation and applicable regulations: This scholarship will be carried on the basis of a signed contract between the University of Évora and the scholarship recipient, under the terms of the Research Scholarship Regulations of the University of Évora, (Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação da Universidade de Évora) (Ordem de Serviçonº1/2011), the Scientific Research Grant Holder Statute (Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação Científica) (Law nº40/2004 of the 18 of August and Decree-Law nº 202/2013 of the 27 of August) and according to the Regulations and legislation for advanced training and qualifications for human resources of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).

Workplace: The work will be developed at the ICAAM, which is located at Herdade da Mitra, Valverde, Évora, Portugal, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Carla Pinto-Cruz and Prof. Anabela Belo.

Duration of the scholarship (s): the fellowship will last for 6 months starting probably in April of 2016. The scholarship may be renewed until the end of the project (December 2017).

Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The stipend is €1495 according to the regulation of advanced training and qualification of human resources of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). This stipend will be paid monthly by check or bank transfer.

Selection Methods: The selection Methods are based on the background of the candidates, namely on their previous professional experience and academic records. The profile of the applicants will also be evaluated considering their personal motivation to apply to the position, general skills in wetlands vegetation ecology and transverse areas, namely those referred to in position requirements, and on a personal interview to the short-listed candidates.

Public display of the results/ Notifications: The final results will be published in the form of an ordered list, with the final evaluation, and displayed in a public and visible place at the Biology Department. The approved candidate will be notified by e-mail.

Application deadline and presentation of applications:The call will be opened from 5th February 2016 to 19th February 2016. The selection results will be published untilThe 5th March 2016.
